Why do I as an interior designer take the time to do accent walls in a room? Accent walls change the look of the room instantly. They can add dimension, color or texture. They also draw the eye to an area for interest, bringing all the room colors together or providing a topic of conversation. The reason I love doing accent walls is because they make the design unique. When I create accent walls I think about the goal of the room design and pair that with the home owners personality or areas of interest they have shared with me in the consultation or conveersations. I try to do an accent wall in every assignment I accept. They are amazing!

I upcycle pieces into a new design for two reasons. The first reason is sentimental value. People often times receive pieces of furniture from a loved one who has passed on. They usually find some peace or happiness from seeing the item and being reminded of the loved one but enjoy knowing the item is being used for a good purpose. The other reason is to keep down the cost in the design budget. 30-40% of the budget gets reduced if there are pieces that are in good enough shape to be upcycled and used in the design.

The answer is yes and no. Whenever I am able to have time for the full design and can squeeze a small upholster project I will do it myself. When the size of the project is too large then it will get outsourced to a local vendor to reupholster. If this is the case, the home owner is made aware of the extra cost associated with the outsourcing before any c hanges are made to  any of the items.
